The Veterans Group

WHERE:  Greensands Health Centre, Heath Road, Coxheath

WHEN: First Tuesday of every month 11am-1pm

The group started in 2022 when Tracey, who was working in the cafe, was speaking with David regarding the Surgery's idea of having specific groups meeting in the new building, in an effort to help ex-service personnel who were perhaps feeling isolated.

The first meeting was a lonely affair. David (representing the Army) was the only one who turned up! However, he persevered by sitting in the corner and reading his book. The next month Janet, his partner, joined him, and two other veterans joined them. One Navy (Senior Service) and one RAF. The group now had representatives from all three branches. The following month another two veterans joined, and gradually the group grew. On a good month the group has 10-12 veterans at the meeting. Sadly, a few have been lost along the way.

The group also meets socially, with wives and partners joining us. The go out to various places for breakfast (the last being at Millbrooks Garden Centre). The have also visited the Priory at Aylesford for afternoon tea (partly funded by the Coxheath Rural District Council from the VE Day fair). There is a Christmas meal planned for December 2025.

Several members also join their wives and partners for keep-fit sessions on Monday mornings at the Coxheath VIllage Hall.

A sociable group with a great deal of laughter, but also strong friends to hare memories with. We are also open to welcoming new Veterans with open arms!

Please use the contact us section below to reach out to David at anytime...or just pop by one of our monthly meetings and say hi in person.
